SHELL X-100
20W-50
Recommended for use in veteran, classic and vintage cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and tractors, where engine designs prohibit the use of modern, low viscosity engine oils with low levels of anti-wear additives. Shell X-100 20W-50 is formulated with the optimum levels of detergent & dispersant to ensure suspended matter collects harmlessly in the engine's oil sump.

Protecting your engine

Choosing the right engine oil for your veteran, vintage or classic vehicle is essential for ensuring peak running condition and maximum wear protection for your engine.

We have now developed a range of Shell Classic X-100 oils to the formulations and viscosities to meet those originally recommended by the vehicle manufacturers.

These specialist oils are high quality, low detergent and low dispersant mono and multigrade lubricants. They are suitable for use in naturally aspirated four stroke petrol and diesel engines.

JOHN SURTEES
Recommends Shell X-100

The 7 time world motorcycle champion on a MV Augusta and the 1964 F1 World champion in a Ferrari recommends Shell Classic X-100 as the lubricant of choice for classic cars.

A material contribution from every sale of Shell X-100 oil, as recommended by John Surtees, will be made to support the Henry Surtees Foundation. We share the aims of the foundation and feel privileged to be associated with the motoring icon of John Surtees and to support the foundation which honours the memory of Henry.

KNOWHOW

SHELL X-100

Historically the best

The formulation of engine oils required for modern vehicles is very different to those needed for older vehicles. Oils for modern engines generally comply with the latest American (API), European (ACEA) & Japanese (JASO) standards as well as specific automotive OEM requirements. These standards are in place to drive improvement in vehicle fuel economy (thus reducing CO2 emissions), extending oil drain intervals and ensuring protection of the exhaust emissions / after-treatment systems.

A classic car engine however, can have the opposite characteristics with such a widely different engine design comes a demand for a totally different lubricant and the Shell Classic X-100 range offers formulations for older vehicles that have been specially blended for the work they have to do.

Classic car engines normally require a high viscosity lubricant with the original anti-wear additive, a zinc/sulphur/phosphorus compound generically called ZDDP (zinc dialkyldithiophosphate). ZDDP has detrimental effect on sensitive exhaust emissions systems on modern cars & its concentration in modern engine oils is significantly lower than that used in oils formulated for classic cars. This is one reason why modern engine oils can cause excessive valve-train wear in older engines.

Historically, many motor manufacturers recommend Shell by name in their original vehicle handbooks and now today's owners are able to follow those original recommendations.
